Is it brave or reckless to quit a job in the current climate\nwe are in right now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently mental health is a massive priority and all the\nthings swirling around are heightening circumstances considerably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m feeling very alone right now.  Theoretically I\u2019m not.  But I still feel it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lockdown has again triggered feelings of being\noverwhelmed<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m feeling trapped, not only in a sense of lockdown in a\nphysical sense, but also in the monetary of we have no other options but to\nstick with what work we have now. \nHowever miserable this may make me feel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m feeling obligated and a sense of loyalty to my job in\nShepparton.  Not because I love it or it\nbrings me joy, but because if I leave, there is a freeze on hiring and no one\nleft to replace me.  Which then becomes\nmore of a work burden on already a skeleton staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I moved here to create opportunities for myself, I believe I\nhave, but also circumstances have led to me not getting much growth from what\nI\u2019m doing, and the job was not what I signed up for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, when I interviewed, I told my General Manager if\nyou want someone who is happy to sit at a desk all day and do paperwork don\u2019t\nhire me.  He informed me that\u2019s not what\nhe wants, he wanted someone to get out in the community and create brand\nawareness and profile.  To network. It\naligned very much with who I am and what I am good at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But he sold me a lemon. \nTo be fair, he didn\u2019t know it was a lemon when he sold it to me. It\u2019s\njust turned out that way from the powers that be above him and then the current\nclimate we see ourselves in which can be covered by saying 2020. The job turned\nout to be 90 percent paperwork. \nActioning other people\u2019s thoughts and ideas with not much chance to use\nmine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m very aware of myself I know I\u2019m incredibly stubborn,\ndetermined, loyal and relationship driven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019d committed to my boss that I was to be here to help make\nthe company strive to be better and to me that\u2019s paramount.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can do the job I\u2019m in, no question. But I\u2019m now at a point\nof reckoning where I look at should I do it just because I can at the expense\nof my own happiness.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key factors I need to take into consideration and what I worry\nabout if I continue with this mental grapple between what is right for everyone\nand what is potentially more right for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I\u2019m a good bloke, likeable enough and can get the job\ndone.  I wanted to this job originally to\ndevelop connections within a large national company within media and upskill so\nthat theoretically one day I\u2019ll be better equipped to push my dreams into\nreality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If I stay in this job, a job that as it is in its current\nclimate is predominately is not designed for someone who likes to move about, not\nbe tied to a desk and run amok. Someone that fidgets and has energy to burn.  Will I become resentful and then therefore\nthat trickle into my work and personal life and make me a not so good bloke to\nbe around?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since October I\u2019ve travelled at least once weekly back to\nAlbury\/Wodonga to work on my radio show and podcast.  These things bring me joy and are where I\nwant to end up long term. Unfortunately, elements of joy have been removed\nbecause I\u2019m time poor, I get to Albury have to do the job and turn around and\ngo back to the paid job in Shepparton. \nI\u2019m doing everything with purpose instead of just because I want to\nanymore. I can\u2019t remember when I last did something for fun, with no reason\nattached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even my exercise is for the purpose of making sure my brain\nand body work ok so I can keep going and work efficiently. I forego other\nexternals so I can sleep and look after myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People advised me against the job in Shepparton, some\ncommended me uprooting myself. Taking a risk and going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same people also advised me to quit my joy projects when\nthey saw how much work I was putting in. This was the one thing that even\nthough I was so tired, I could not see reasoning in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The advice was with good intention but ultimately I would\nhave been giving up the things that make me happy the projects and my\nopportunities to practice my craft as a trade off for the paid job which I\u2019d\ntaken to help get me networks to further advance myself in the lane I want to\nend up in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, the thing I loved the most.  The reason I was travelling back every week\naccumulating 10\u2019s of thousands of kilometres resulted in The Mixed Lolly Bag\nwinning an award with my co-host Josh. It had been a big commitment.  But in the moment, I felt immense validation\nthat I was doing the right thing and was on the right path.  That the work was worth it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the climate we\u2019re in now I, like everyone else have been\nforced to take a breath and reassess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I must look at it again and think to myself<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are these feelings of discontent a compounding thing from\nlockdown?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Will I be upset with\nmyself months from now if I\u2019ve not taken charge of where I\u2019m headed again?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If I\u2019m no further developed in my passion projects because\nI\u2019ve traded this for a paid job where I\u2019m feeling bound by loyalty will I be\ndisappointed and where I could have been and look back with resentment?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is a sense of loyalty and obligation a fair trade for\nhappiness?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take a good hard look at yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KNOW YOURSELF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
