The\nRegina\u2019s Cabaret performance: EDLMAYR<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Atomic sat down recently to chat with The\nReginas Emily Weaver and Coralie Schell. Last month\u2019s punk-inspired cabaret\nshow, EDLMAYR which was held at the HotHouse Theatre was the pairs brainchild.\nHere\u2019s how the quirky upbeat performers went under interview\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell\nus what\u2019s special about the Reginas?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coralie: We represent [laughs] we\u2019re\nfeminist. Passionate about music, social justice, breaking down the patriarchy and\nwomen being a part of the club!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily: We\u2019ve branched into theatre which is\nspecial, it\u2019s allowed us to explore themes beyond songs. We have originals too.\nRecorded by Mung Balding in Melbourne which was great fun. We recorded eleven\nsongs in fourteen hours straight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s\nincredible, what\u2019s the name of that album?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily: We don\u2019t know..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coralie: It\u2019s like having a baby you\nhaven\u2019t named yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily: This is also why we\u2019re special.. (laughs!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Has\nthe album been released yet?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coralie: Not yet. We want to release it on\ncassette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wow…\nTell us about your show EDLMAYR?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily: We scored CELSIUS funding to refine\nour performance under the Independent Theatre program. It was such an amazing\nday for us. It\u2019s a pretty big deal!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s\namazing, what were you doing in the lead up to that?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily: We were doing pub gigs, writing\nsongs, we dropped our band of four down to two because we thought we work well\ntogether. We wrote punk and funk, we knew we needed a drummer, so Kevin slotted\ninto that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coralie: We didn\u2019t want to do covers or be\na glorified jukebox. We want to be performers of the songs that we write with\nour heart and soul. Our genre is quite diverse. It makes for good theatre.\nLater we might go into punk and then we will look at other places to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So,\nwhat will Regina\u2019s be doing after EDLMAYR wraps up?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily: Burning down the patriarchy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coralie: We hope to take the show on the\nroad. Melbourne, Canberra, Woolongong. Maybe we will write some more punk\nmusic. Maybe we will play in Albury!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
