Isy Cappo on Club Culture, Chaos, and Her No.1 Single

Written by on 2 June 2025

For some, a dancefloor is a physical place. For Isy Cappo, it’s something much deeper, a collective energy, a metaphysical space that only truly comes alive when the right people are in the room. And with her breakout hit “Dancefloor”, the Goulburn-based artist is determined to bring that energy back.

In a recent radio chat with Atomic’s Max B, Isy opened up about the inspiration behind the track, the state of club culture in 2025, and the vodka-fuelled chaos that makes a night out worth writing about.

“I don’t think the dancefloor is a place,” Isy said. “It’s wherever we are, when the vibes are right, when you’re surrounded by the people you love, and when you just let go. That’s the dancefloor.”

It’s a philosophy that runs through the song’s beat and boldness. But surprisingly, the anthem wasn’t born during a messy night out, it was written completely sober, during a songwriting retreat in Bali.

“I kept asking all week, ‘Where the f**k’s the dancefloor?’” she laughed. “We had this amazing dance class with a girl called Zoe Moves, and the next morning I thought, ‘We actually need a song to hype us up before we go out.’ And so, I wrote it, imagining the night I wanted us to have.”

That night eventually came, and then some. Isy’s track dropped, she hit the local club in Goulburn and asked the DJ to spin the song. The result? A completely empty dancefloor at first.

“But we got up anyway,” she said. “We were singing our hearts out, just my friends and I. And by the end of the track, I turned around and the whole club was on the dancefloor. It worked. People felt it.”

That energy, that joy in the chaos, is exactly what Dancefloor celebrates. Aisha, one of Isy’s friends and a surprise inspiration behind the song, even appears in the music video. “She’s always the vibe,” Isy said. “We met by chance and just clicked. It felt right to have her there when the song came full circle.”

But Dancefloor isn’t just a party track. There’s a tongue-in-cheek spirituality to it, too. “There’s a line, ‘take it slow’ and yeah, part of it is just me catching my breath when I sing it live,” Isy laughed. “But it’s also a reminder. You’re not texting your ex tonight. You’re throwing your phone away. Tonight’s for you and the girls.”

Isy also shared her ideal night out, a glorious spiral of pre-drinks, dancing till the lights come on, wandering to a stranger’s place for D&Ms, and finally crashing with a stomach full of beef noodles and zero regrets. “That’s an Isy Cappo night,” she said. “Come with me.”

And while Dancefloor may be a moment of club revival, it’s far from her final word. Isy’s next single, “Tell Me More”, is set to drop on June 13, and promises a whole new chapter of late-night truths and irresistible grooves.

If Dancefloor was a rally cry, Tell Me More sounds like a confession waiting to happen.
