How long have you been rocking it out with Toxic Dolls?

I’ve been playing with the toxic dolls since April this year. So far, I’ve played about 10 gigs with them. Every gig is a load of fun! We get to dress up in corsets and rock out to some of the best rock and pop tunes of the last 30/40 years.

How’s it going with your brand-new band, Outlier?

Outlier is going great! We’re a 3 piece, started by Jay Parrino (singer/guitarist). Jay’s had the band for nearly 20 years. I’ve just started as their new bass player. Outlier plays quite regularly also in the Sydney surrounds. We cover songs from every era and play a lot of stuff you wouldn’t hear your typical pub band to play.

Tell us your favourite thing about playing with Outlier these days?

There is lots of things I love about playing with them, I couldn’t name one! Probably the fact that Jay and Rose (drummer) are so tight and talented! But we have so much fun when we play together, there’s good vibes at every gig.

We understand you’ve recently been endorsed by Mark Bass, what did they give you?

With the Mark bass and Ernie ball endorsement, I get trade prices on all their stocked items, which can be up to 60% off retail price! And with the help of Jay (who is also endorsed by them) I was given a mark bass New York Ninja 122 cab with the matching little Mark Ninja 1000 head, and 6 packs of Ernie Ball bass strings.

Do you love what they gave you?

I absolutely love what they gave me! To be honest I’m still pinching myself.

Tell us a bit about how they recognised you for endorsement?

It was all thanks to jay, who sent a music bio on me. They recognised me for the fact I play with Jay frequently, and for the work I’ve done over the years. I played bass with other bands in the past, which we opened for highly recognised Australian music legends such as Mental as Anything, the Androids, the Chantoozies, Wilbur Wilde and the Vanns. I also got to play at the Deni Blues and Roots Festival in 2014 with Joel Sulman, and shared a stage with artists like John Mayer, Elvis Costello, the Doobie Brothers, Boz Scaggs just to name a few. I also got to join Steve Balbi (Noiseworks, Mi-sex) and open for him in Wagga on his Modern Love tour in 2018.

Where can the punters expect to see Nikky Thomas playing soon?

I play every weekend up in Sydney with the two bands! All events can be found on Facebook on our band pages – Toxic dolls and Outlier.

There are plans in the works for BOTH BANDS to head down to Albury Wodonga to play in 2020 so our locals don’t miss out. Stay tuned!
