Up and coming Gold Coast artist Ms. Elly joined Josh G for a chat on Atomic radio this month to discuss her artistry, her cross-genre music and the life experiences that have impacted upon her journey through music and that mould the nature of her relationship with her fans.

Josh G: Ms. Elly how are you going mate?

Ms. Elly: I’m pretty good Josh, pretty hot up here today.

Josh G: I could imagine, we have one of our blokes, Max up there in Queensland and he’s complaining how hot it is up there but he’s a big softy, so I’m sure it’s fine.

Ms. Elly: I’m actually based on the Gold Coast now, I’d rather keep away from the crocodiles.

Josh G: Fair call, me too. Hey something that we don’t need to keep away from is your music, you had a fantastic year in Atomics’ top one hundred this year, having all four of your tracks feature in the hundred throughout the day which is amazing and you’ve got a bit of a story you released your first one in 2016. Tell us a little bit about that journey how it kind of came to now in 2020?

Ms. Elly: Yeah okay my first release, the first song that I wrote was Just Another day and was released in 2016, that one was actually, as all my songs inspired by my real life journey that I had lived through and experienced and basically that song was written when I was involved that was when I was going through my marriage and I was going through a dark place and it was a mix of all the emotions I went through. One night I woke up and it was 2 o’clock in the morning and it just came flowing through my mind and all the lyrics just came flowing through and I started just recording on my phone and even the title, how do I live Another Day came to me, Just Another Day. So that’s how that song came together, that song was actually nominated for the 15th annual awards [for independent music] because of the high interaction with the listeners. Yeah, that’s basically how that one, what the message was inspired by.

Josh G: You’ve got quite an engaged fan base, you’ve got your own fan page there and they’re big supporters of you aren’t they?

Ms. Elly: I do yeah and also basically almost on a daily but sort of on a weekly basis I have a lot of requests to join my group and I go through and have a look at who they are, what their interest is, they are interested to know more about what I’m about. A lot of the feedback, a lot of them say they love the versatility of my style and comment a lot about my voice. They say my voice is very unique, they say you have a beautiful voice that’s very different. I just really write what I feel and just try to connect to the society, the community and maybe someone who is going through the exact same thing that I’ve gone through in my life. Basically it’s just about the connection really.

Josh G: Yeah that’s fantastic. You’ve got a couple of CD’s out, a couple of singles, Walk the Talk is one that was really popular here around Atomic, what has been going? Has Covid held you back or have you been gigging much? What’s been the go in Ms. Elly’s life, as far as touring?

Ms. Elly: Well I haven’t done much touring basically I’ve just been writing, putting it all together, I’m sure there’s a lot of future plans coming up once things tone down a bit more and just play that one by ear, but other than that I’m still substituting this live video so my fans can tune into my Instagram page @ms.elly_original and also I do play quite regularly almost daily on my Facebook page so they can watch me perform through live videos, and a lot of other musical groups as well can see that.

Josh G: Absolutely fantastic so are you telling me there might be a new release on the way is that it?

Ms. Elly: There is a release in January 2021 coming out and that is actually going to be rock genre style this time. I’ve already released the ambient, hip hop, pop and gospel so you know the rock one’s coming out and that is going into production, we’re looking at January.

Josh G: That’s really interesting, quite a lot of artists tend to find a genre and stick with it. It’s very unique that you’ve gone and taken a single from each genre and put them altogether.

Ms. Elly: That’s what I mean by versatile, I’m not a one trick kind of artist or songwriter. I mix a combination of different styles. What I found myself through getting experimental is getting to know myself, I realized I’m not just one genre, I’m a whole lot and more, I probably don’t know how much yet.

At present, Ms. Elly’s four tracks, Just Another Day, Child In Me, Walk The Talk AND I Found Jesus are all charting on the Atomic Countdown. Check out Ms. Elly on her socials @ms.elly_original
