Making More for Musicians This Christmas Time

Written by on 14 December 2021

An early Christmas gift announcement.

We all know that musicians are a bulwark of personal enjoyment. The festive season drives home this point more so than any other time of the year.

Who can’t relate to slapping in your EarPods to your favourite song whilst drowning out the sound of that severely over-played Christmas jingle as you walk through the shopping mall? As aficionados of the music industry, we’ve always understood the importance of the creative work done by our musical counterparts. That’s why we’re rolling out some Merry new changes that are bound to bring out some Christmas joy!

We are Making More for Musicians!

Starting on December 15th we are implementing an across-the-board price increase to all music downloads from $2.50 to $2.89. By now we’ve all heard about inflation, well we’re making sure that Australian artists get out in-front and ahead-of-the-curve on any past and future inflation costs. While royalty payments probably won’t afford anyone a house too soon, this almost 16% increase in song prices aligns more closely with the rising cost of housing. The ultra-low fee’s that Atomic charges (14% flat rate) will remain unaffected by this change.

We are also Making for More Musicians!

Just like overdone Christmas Carols, no one likes to listen to the same song over and over, particularly if it’s not your jam. From December the 15th we’re doing an update to our music chart system. From that date onwards, chart points will accumulate on a rolling average of 3 weeks, instead of the 6-week rolling average. For artists this means that high performing weeks of downloads and streams will carry them over for three weeks, making the eminent sixer’s club that little bit more illustrious. It will also give emerging artists twice the opportunity to score a charting position every time they work on promoting their songs.

For listeners this means that you’re likely to hear more music and a changing repertoire of songs on the charts. Be sure to help out your favourite artists by reposting their songs, commenting on your favourite ones, liking them and especially sharing stream links to your social circles. All of these actions will earn a stronger weight towards each songs chart ranking for the following three weeks.

Several months ago, we outlined our emerging role, as ‘the music platform for musicians’. With our renewed Christmas pledge to make more for musicians and to make for more musicians, we’re giving the giving the gift of music. Wishing a Merry Christmas and happy new year to all!
