Miss Mikaila drops ‘Same Old Song’

Miss Mikaila is no stranger to Atomic with two number one tracks under her belt, an Australian tour and a unique ability to write songs in a matter of minutes!

We heard a whisper a few weeks ago that there was some more works in the making and finally got a chance to catch up with her to not only confirm the rumours, but to bring you her latest track EXCLUSIVELY on Atomic!

Tell us about the single you are dropping…

The single I’m releasing is called “Same Old Song”. I wrote this back in 2016, which was a year of rapid growth for me as a performing musician.

“Same Old Song is about going through changes in life and feeling like you’re all alone on your life’s journey. Feeling like no-one else knows how you feel when in reality, almost everyone feels the same way. This song for me was about being aware that there are people who know how I felt and was a way of reaching out to others who felt the same. Letting them know they’re not really alone in life.”

Why this song as your first release in years!? What makes it special?

I don’t know really… I think given the “ball of fun” 2020 has been for the world, this feels like the right song to release! It’s a call to arms for a broken society and spreads a message I feel we all need to hear.

You have had two top charting releases on Atomic and were one of the first artists to engage in our network then suddenly disappeared. Where the hell did you go?!?

I’ve still been around… Here and there haha (sic). I did take some time off to have a family and I really wanted to spend some time to enjoy being a mum. My kids are awesome and I love being a mum but never really left the stage for too long. I was still doing shows while I was pregnant and only recently took a few months off. I guess I’ve been more focused on playing shows than being in the studio BUT I’m super pumped to be back on the original bandwagon again! I’ve really missed it!

This track is a hugely different vibe to the tracks on your EP. What was the inspiration for the music?

I really wanted to express another side of what my music sounds like and this song is another example of what I can produce when locked away in a sound proof room… Obviously with the help of an awesome producer!

Did you have any features on the track with you?

This whole track was done purely by myself and my producer, Joel Sulman. I feel like Joel did most of the work… (thanks Joel!).

We are all aware random sh%t goes on in the studio… Any crazy stories you can let us in on?

So at the time of tracking this song, I was living in Wollongong and traveling back and forth to Albury to get this project done. Traveling at 90km’s an hour (Red P’s… ergh) was exhausting and on session, I was so exhausted, when it came to tracking the drums, I fell asleep right next to the drum-kit in the tracking room and slept the whole way through it! I’m pretty sure we even recorded me snoring at one point!

I heard a rumour there is an Album in the works? Care to shed any light on this one?

I feel like I’m waaaaay overdue for an album… I don’t know yet though… We’ll just have to see if I get around to it 😉
