Young Talent Time to celebrate 50th Anniversary
Written by Ryan Stevenson on 20 April 2021
The premiere of the iconic Australian TV show Young Talent Time is turning fifty years old this month.
It was on the night of April 23 1971 that music star Johnny Young and six of Australia’s best young talents plus guests were seen on TV for the first time and that debut episode set off a run that lasted until December 1988 before a one off video episode was produced in 1990.
Forty kids were members of the Young Talent Team between 1971 and 1990 and another ten were members when Rob Mills headed the second run of the show in 2012 and while that run only lasted one year, it introduced Australia to several more talented performers and they are currently all doing well.
On April 25 between 9am and 3pm, a reunion special will be taped in Sydney featuring Johnny Young and at least sixteen members of the Young Talent Team who appeared between 1971 and 1990 plus guests.
This special will be airing online on May 1 and for $14.95 fans can view the show when it airs at 6:45pm Melbourne time that night, purchasers can also view it on demand after it finishes airing for the first time.
The 50th Anniversary fun is not expected to end there, there will be an appearance at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in June (tickets now available) and a possible tour in the late in the year should COVID not be a problem.
Next year will be the tenth anniversary of the 2012 edition so the party could potentially start all over again just with a different bunch of people.
