What is “Support” Anyway? A Challenge ;)
Written by Atomic Newsroom on 22 September 2020
I hear this a lot floating around the traps…
“Supporting local music“… “Support live music“… etc etc
What is support anyway? How is it defined? What are you ACTUALLY doing to help musicians in the area grow in their respective careers?
Perhaps the most frustrating thing is when a business says they support musicians as a means to promote to you that they are a safe place to shop… I mean yes, they have what you are looking to buy but so does the internet and most of the time, much cheaper… So apart from mentioning your name from time to time and hanging a poster up in their window, what are they actually doing to help you grow? (seriously, tell us!)
Diving a little deeper, what about your friends that hit the “Going” button on your facebook event post and then don’t actually rock up?!? I mean… they said they would BUT these days, to get someone to commit to an event, it takes a hell of a lot of planning, coaxing and constant reminders. Not to mention the chain you need to put around their balls (or respective lady balls) to get them away from the boundless content available to them via modern technology making it easier to hear and see shows without ever having to leave your lounge room!…
Now with the silly season approaching, I am going to set you a challenge…
I challenge you to go to three live gig’s of your favourite artists. Take a selfie with the artist in the background rocking out and send your thoughts of the gig onto your socials citing #shadeyselfie and tag an ATOMIC social into it!
Do that and I’ll go hunt the editor and chief of ATOMIC Magazine down, tie him up until he agrees to my terms to re-post gratitude from your very own Chub Shadey (and your awesome selfies) 😉
Get out there, support LIVE music… Actually support it and gain the “new life experiences” these boomers keep talking to us about!
Shade Out…
